Descartes Systems Group has acquired transportation software provider Tai Software for $100 million, in a bid to expand its tools for freight brokers.

In an August 24 release, Descartes said the deal will broaden its transportation management business, and add more carrier, shipment and transaction data to its existing logistics network. Descartes CEO Edward Ryan also said that Tai complements the company’s existing tools for carrier onboarding, compliance, fraud prevention and shipment visibility.

California-based Tai offers a transportation management platform that helps brokers handle shipments across truckload, less-than-truckload, drayage and cross-border freight. The company says the software brings tasks including quoting, finding carriers, managing loads, billing and customer communication into one system, while using artificial intelligence to automate parts of the process.

Descartes paid for the acquisition with cash on hand. The company did not disclose any other financial terms, or say whether Tai will continue operating under its current brand.
