Industries' Performances Vary Widely on 'Supply Chain Effective Frontier'
For a new report on supply chain excellence, an assistant and I waded through spreadsheet after spreadsheet of data for the last three weeks and contrasted the progress of the high-tech, consumer products, food, pharmaceutical and industrial industries. The storyline of the report is that ONLY the high-tech industry is making progress on what I call the Supply Chain Effective Frontier - effectively balancing progress on growth, profitability, cycles and complexity. The rest of the industries are either stuck or moving backwards. Consumer packaged goods, food and chemical manufacturers are stuck and pharmaceutical and industrial companies are losing ground and moving backwards.

By 2015, the company intends to supply the infrared search and track system as standard equipment for the Dassault Rafale fighter for the Indian Air Force. Meanwhile, the Thales-Bharat Electronics surface radar joint venture is on track and will be fully operational by March, said Eric Lenseigne, Thales's country head for India. "Offsets at a later stage could be a possibility."

Demand Planning 'Most Misunderstood' Supply Chain Planning Application
Within an organization, the words "demand planning" stir emotions. Usually, it is not a mild reaction. Instead, it's a series of emotions defined by wild extremes, including anger, despair, disillusionment or hopelessness. Seldom do we find a team excited about demand planning. Supply chain leaders want to improve it, but are not optimistic that they can make improvements.
When Will Cloud ERP Take Off?
Most can agree that cloud ERP, and certainly manufacturing cloud ERP, is in its infancy. Interestingly, while analysts project that the adoption rate for cloud HR is more than 60 percent and for cloud CRM over 75 percent, the present adoption rate of cloud ERP for manufacturers is less than 10 percent (versus 90 percent of on-premise ERP). Yet, there is a general consensus that by 2023 most of the installed MFG ERP systems will be cloud-based.
