Five Keys to Better Project Implementations
It's often been said that "no one sets out to make a bad movie." But each year, even some of the world's most talented filmmakers succeed in doing just that. In much the same way, no one aims to pull off a less-than-perfect logistics start-up or transition; yet such "failures" happen all the time, even to companies with the best of supply chains and noblest of project management intentions.
Enabling a Connected Point-of-Sale System for CPG Firms
An integrated point-of-sale IT strategy will help CPG firms gain valuable insight into consumption data that can pave the way for a positive impact in a number of important areas. They include new/improved product formulation, inventory optimization, supply chain optimization, trade promotion management and optimization, and demand/forecast optimization. Furthermore, an integrated POS strategy can create a win-win for all stakeholders involved, including the retail partners.
Input Sought for Performance Study of Procurement Organizations

The open performance study should assist procurement leaders move beyond cost savings, and better understand the progress and strategies used in all facets of growth.
Soft Drinks Leader Sips Up Savings - New Warehouse Management Control Software
Challenge: A worldwide leader in the soft drink industry recently installed a Westfalia Automated Storage and Retrieval System (AS/RS) with Savanna.NET ® Warehouse Management Control Software (WMC) at their plant in Tampa, FL. Chief among the objectives of this facility expansion, besides maximizing storage space with the high density AS/RS, is to build store ready pallets.
Major Foodservice Distributor Commands Voice Picking Operations Via Central Server
Challenge: Voxware helped a major foodservice distributor with 18 DCs manage their voice picking operations from one centralized server. This allows the workers to get products out the door without being burdened with IT-related tasks.
Retailer Picks an ROI Winner With New Voice Based Picking Solution
Challenge: Our client, a retail chain with over 70 stores, needed to improve the accuracy of its paper-based order picking operations and improve their picking error rate at their distribution center. Their research of technologies led them to Voice based picking solutions. From there they evaluated three vendors' voice based picking solutions via three week pilot programs with each solution and compiled the productivity and accuracy statistics.
On-Demand WMS Gives Retailer Optimized Visibility with Minimized Cost
Challenge: Our retail client has been operating their logistics network with 5 distribution centers (DC) across the country to support their stores: one main, centralized DC and 4 regional DCs (RDC). Due to the disparity of the warehouse management solutions (WMS) used by all the DCs, there was no real time visibility across the network to manage inventory and outbound orders. Because their operations were centralized at the main DC, they incurred unnecessary transportation and labor costs.
Tier 1 Wholesaler Adopts DC Expert Planning Tool, Saves $2M
Challenge: Insight was engaged by a tier 1 wholesaler of convenience store products to help reduce costs and gain efficiencies in the operation.
US Wine & Spirits Distributor Heightens Visibility & Operations
Challenge: The second largest distributor of wine and spirits in the US, our client operates in a tightly regulated industry with outdated business processes and systems, and was challenged by a lack of visibility to inbound orders from its global vendors and suppliers. In addition, the company's manual order and shipment tracking processes frequently led to significant delays and difficulty in determining accurate inventory levels and expected arrival dates, leading to reactive expediting and additional intra-company transportation moves.
Online Retailer Makes Millions with New Automated WMS
Challenge: An online retailer was growing quickly. Its homegrown warehouse management system (WMS) was error prone and inefficient. The warehouse team was picking orders using just a piece of paper. In order to keep up with the growth and stay true to its commitment to customer service, the company invested in a WMS from HighJump Software. Management was looking for a highly adaptable, comprehensive and automated system that could be quickly implemented to boost efficiency and accuracy.
Natural Foods Company Makes Strategic Changes for a Healthier Supply Chain
Challenge: Our client is a large, privately owned wholesaler-distributor of health and natural food products in the U.S. The company was experiencing significantly high labor costs and inefficient distribution and supply chain processes. The client turned to enVista to develop a supply chain strategy to meet its aggressive business goals.
Attracting and Retaining Talent in Demand Planning
The notion that companies are having no trouble finding supply chain talent is "a misperception in the marketplace," says Jason Breault, managing director of LifeWork Search. Media reports of high unemployment levels don't take fully into account the white-collar sector, where more than a million jobs have been added. Unemployment in that area is down to 4 percent, which isn't far from the 2-percent figure that is considered full employment, Breault says.
