How to Maintain a Healthy Supply Chain Amidst Turbulence
Warning: there's turbulence ahead. And it's inevitable. Or just about. Disasters are growing exponentially and ... alarmingly ... according to the Centre for Research on the Epidemiology of Disasters (CRED), which set the number of global natural disasters in 2016 at just under 300 - gigantic increase over, say, 1900, when there were fewer than ten such events.

U.S. Third-Quarter Growth Revised Upward on Consumer Spending
The U.S. economy expanded more than previously reported last quarter on a sunnier picture of household spending, the primary growth engine. Gross domestic product rose at a 3.2-percent annualized rate in the three months ended in September, the fastest in two years, compared with an initial estimate of 2.9 percent, Commerce Department figures showed last week. The median forecast in a Bloomberg survey called for a 3-percent gain.

Zara's Recipe for Success: More Data, Fewer Bosses
Deep inside a sprawling glass-and-cement edifice the size of an airplane hangar in the Spanish town of Arteixo, 10 designers swarm around a model dressed in cropped gray trousers and a double-breasted navy blazer. Sweaters, shirts and suits are spread out on the white-tile floor, while seamstresses in white labcoats stitch prototypes nearby. "It's classic, but it's new at the same time," says a woman from China. "I'm not sure about the bold patterns," counters a British woman, dressed in white sneakers and a flowing skirt. Others nod their assent or express doubt.
Dialing Up Deals: Black Friday Online Sales Hit New High
Holiday shoppers eager to snag big discounts turned to the internet in record fashion this week, one tracking company said, driving online sales on Black Friday to a new high. Macy's China Experiment Shows the Potential of Retail VR

Mideast Aluminum Producers Filling Gap After U.S. Plants Close
Middle East aluminum producers are boosting metal shipments to the U.S. to fill a supply gap left from plant closings. Since 1980, U.S. output has dropped from 4.6 million metric tons by 32 smelters to about 700,000 tons by five smelters this year, said Jorge Vazquez, managing director of Austin, Texas-based Harbor Intelligence. The last U.S. smelter to open was in 1985, he said.
