As Amazon Pushes Forward With Robots, Workers Find New Roles
Nissa Scott started working at the cavernous Amazon warehouse in southern New Jersey late last year, stacking plastic bins the size of small ottomans. It was not, she says, the most stimulating activity. And lifting the bins, which often weigh 25 pounds each, was also tiring over 10-hour shifts.

Tokyo's St. Luke's International Hospital has completed a pilot of RFID technology to track the movement of equipment. The facility found that the technology identified stock levels at each of its wards in real time, and reduced the number of staff visits to the central clinical engineering room by approximately 55 percent.

Levi's Aims to Make Life Better for Garment Workers
It's 11 a.m. on a Tuesday, and a section of Linea 1 has left their stations to form a ring on the factory floor. As their supervisor stands in the center, the workers toss a ball of blue yarn back and forth across the circle, each holding on to a segment of string to create an elaborate cat's cradle. As they pass the ball, they take turns making promises, telling each other the things they plan to say and do later. One says she'll spend more time with her family. Another says he'll speak up when he feels he's been treated unfairly.
'Ware-bnb': The Rise of On-Demand Distribution
With its dark, gloomy winters, Seattle is a good place to run a wine accessories store, especially during the holiday season. A few years ago, a wine-themed company called True Fabrications was doing well in Seattle - so well, in fact, that it was running out of space to store its inventory. The owners figured that, to get through their next holiday peak season, they would need another 2,000 to 3,000 pallet positions of capacity, but only for four to five months.

Novartis CEO's Dilemma: Is $475,000 Too Much for a Leukemia Breakthrough?
Joseph Jimenez, the chief executive of Novartis, is celebrating a triumph. The Food and Drug Administration approved Kymriah, a new treatment for kids with leukemia. But he's also taking heat from all sides over his decision to charge $475,000 for the treatment, and, in a major first, to negotiate deals that charge only patients who go into remission.
