Getting Better Return on Your Supply Chain Technology Investment
For years, companies have used digital supply chain technologies to improve service levels and reduce costs. But the inability to connect disparate systems, provide end-to-end visibility into the supply chain, and crunch massive amounts of data, among other issues, has prevented many companies from achieving the full potential of their supply chains. Now, thanks to the wide availability and adoption of much more powerful digital technologies, including advanced analytics and cloud-based solutions, companies are generating dramatically better returns on their investments.
How Strong Returns Management Helps Your Business Flourish
The product return process has long been neglected at companies, written off as a necessary expense that adds no value. The returns function and any process related to it is often given the bare minimum of time and consideration. Typically, once an item is returned, it's thrown into the back of a warehouse and forgotten about while a new product was shipped to the customer.
Close Brick-and-Mortar Stores? No Way, Say Younger Shoppers
Shoppers, particularly younger ones, believe it's important for retailers to have a physical store, and they expect that store to make a good first impression.
How Good - or Bad - Is Free Trade for Workers?
It's easy to scoff at the anti-free-trade rhetoric emanating from the U.S. presidential campaign trail. Donald Trump keeps yelling about China, Mexico and Japan. Bernie Sanders won't stop shouting about greedy multinational corporations. Hillary Clinton, Ted Cruz and John Kasich are awkwardly leaning in the same direction. If you're a typical pro-trade business executive, you're tempted to ask: Were these people throwing Frisbees on the quad during Econ 101?

Better Oversight - Not a Ban - Needed for Lithium-Ion Battery Cargo on Planes
There is no doubt that lithium-ion batteries, when packed together without the proper packaging and handling precautions, can certainly be dangerous. In 2014, the Federal Aviation Administration applied heat to a container packed with 5,000 lithium-ion batteries that resulted in a thermal runaway and subsequent explosion of flammable gases emitted within the container. Even a favorite fire suppressant, when used, was ineffective in extinguishing the fire. The danger appears to be inherent in all aircraft configurations, passenger or all-cargo.
Automakers, Start Your Engines: China Has Huge Appetite for Driverless Cars
Some argue that conditions in China are actually more favorable for quick adoption of driverless cars, in part because of more aggressive support from the national and local governments. And, unlike in the United States, China never fully developed a romance with the open road and car ownership.
Three Ways to Reduce Workplace Accidents, Illnesses
The transportation and warehousing industry suffered more than 95,000 industrial accidents and illnesses in 2014, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor. That works out to 225 per 10,000 workers - one of the highest rates of any industry. Most estimates put the annual cost of workplace injuries at more than $50bn, so it makes sense from a business as well as a moral point of view to make safety a priority. The following are some proven ways to increase safety.
Amazon Replenishes - at Touch of a Button
A year after the launch of the Dash button, Amazon is tripling the number of branded buttons available as customer use grows.
Import Growth Seen at U.S. West Coast Ports Outstrips That of East Coast Seaports
U.S. import volumes, measured in TEUs, have rebounded at West Coast ports so far this year. Imports through the port of Los Angeles increased 36 percent January through February of 2016 and 30 percent through the port of Long Beach, compared with the same time period in 2015, according to findings from Datamyne, which provides web-based international market intelligence.
