For exporters, the vendor offers visibility and access information to ocean container supplies in key locations, through use of a Web-based street-turn interface. The user can view available containers within the SIS database available for street-turns within proximity to the exporter's manufacturing or sourcing site. Importers can terminate their containers at network distribution centers or facilities by street-turn matching with existing shipper and carrier export demand, at nearby destinations. In the process, it can devise a plan for container re-use that minimizes turn-time requirements. Results, according to Synchronet, include decreased containeryard and terminal-handling costs, and increased utilization of equipment by shipping lines in areas where they lack visibility of fleet operations. SIS provides a North American repositioning service to handle surpluses of empty containers from inland locations to port cities through stack-train service and domestic interchange.
