Duty savings, logistics efficiency, tax savings, and enhanced cash flow lead the list of benefits available through foreign-trade zones (FTZs). FTZs are defined as secure areas that are generally considered to be outside U.S. customs territory for duty assessments and other customs entry procedures. Businesses may use FTZs for a range of approved activities including manufacturing, storage, assembly or production. Currently as many as 250 “general-purpose zones” exist throughout the U.S, and more than 500 subzones, which are company-specific sites. A new white paper from Purolator International, “Foreign-Trade Zones,” provides an overview of the FTZ program, including examples of how companies are achieving significant savings.
