Three Examples Why Cheaper Warehouse Equipment Isn't Always Less Expensive
Perhaps one of the most significant contributions the internet has made to our daily lives (outside of being able to connect with people we never spoke to and didn't even know in high school) is the ability to find the rock-bottom price for just about anything we need to purchase easily. With a quick search on the right keywords, or a visit to megasites such as Amazon.com or eBay, we can find exactly what we're looking for and save a lot of money to boot. Or so it would seem.
Growth in Coal Market Has Been Boon to Dry Bulk Shipping Industry
Drewry's latest Dry Bulk Forecaster reports that coal has been the recent saviour of the dry bulk market. Global GDP grew by 3.2 percent in 2012, following growth of 5.2 percent and 4.0 percent in the post-recession years of 2010 and 2011. This slowdown blighted dry bulk cargo volumes and in turn tonnage demand. Global steel production, reflecting industrial and growth activity around the world, grew by only 1.3 percent in 2012, with a subsequent impact on iron ore and coking coal trade.
More Than 43 Percent of Manufacturers Report They Are Designing 'Factories of the Future'
Formidable challenges, from tough economics to rising market complexity, are driving a profound rethinking in the manufacturing industry, according to a global survey by IDC Manufacturing Insights called "Business Strategy: The Journey Toward the People-Intensive Factory of the Future." In this context, effective factory management is essential. In fact, more than 43 percent of survey respondents declared they have a formal process in place to design future production plants.

The Confusing World of U.S. Export Regulations
Export regulations were - and are - anything but straight-forward. One reason is that they reflect political pressures and interests. And these pressures and interests change with the wind.
Consumers Want Choices and Convenience When Shopping Online, Study Finds
Release of the second UPS Pulse of the Online Shopper: A Customer Experience Study analyzes omnichannel retailing and shows consumers want more choices when it comes to shopping online, more control over when their purchases will be delivered and a convenient returns process. They're also using social media to shop for the best deals and expect more shipping options from e-tailers.

As Oil Interests Move Into West African Waters, So Do Growing Numbers of Pirates
While the frequency of pirate attacks off the Horn of Africa has fallen to its lowest level since 2009, this is no time to celebrate. Somali pirates still hold two vessels for ransom with 60 crew members as hostages. More alarming, however, is the increase in the capabilities of pirate groups in West Africa's Gulf of Guinea, now challenging Somalia as the world's most dangerous place to sail.
