Clean Energy Fuels Corp. announced that it has placed a purchase contract on property where it hopes to build a liquefied natural gas (LNG) fuel terminal in Jacksonville, Fla. This would be the first LNG facility on the Eastern seaboard to specifically supply LNG for the maritime, heavy-duty trucking and rail industries.

Argentinean container-terminal operator TecPlata is installing an RFID-based solution to track and manage conditions within the refrigerated containers (known as reefer units) stored at Buenos Aires's La Plata Port, making it one of the early adopters of a new system provided by Identec Solutions. The terminal is scheduled to open at the end of this year.
Retail Imports Growing as Holidays Approach, Cargo Moving Despite Concerns Over Government Shutdown
Despite concerns over the government shutdown, import volume at the nation's major retail container ports is expected to grow 9.1 percent in October over the same month last year, according to the monthly Global Port Tracker report released by the National Retail Federation and Hackett Associates. The numbers reflect merchandise ordered months before the shutdown as retailers planned for the holiday season.
U.S. Imports for July and August Indicate Busier Holiday Shopping
U.S. imports in August are the second-highest month for twenty-foot container volume in 2013, according to Zepol, a trade intelligence company. The United States imported nearly 1.61 million TEUs in August, which is 5% less than July's 1.69 million, but a half a percentage higher than August of last year.

Panama Canal Widening Project Reported to Be More Than 60 Percent Finished
The Panama Canal Authority, or ACP, says the $5.2bn widening of the Panama Canal is more than 60 percent complete. The first four of 16 gates for the canal's third set of locks marked a construction milestone. Locks are nearly 50 percent finished; concrete work is two-thirds done; and water-saving basins are about 40 percent complete.
