Zonar Unveils Fuel-Based GPS Tracking Technology

The addition of a fifth dimension allows the technology to determine sample rates based on fuel consumption in addition to geographical data. The methodology accounts for route and driving changes. The GPS sampling density increases as fuel consumption increases or "spikes," and relaxes when consumption decreases or is relatively static. As a result, Zonar said, fleets can identify the routes and lanes over which their vehicles are most and least fuel-efficient. Zonar's platforms also transmit engine fault codes and verified electronic vehicle-inspection data in real time. The capability allows users to remotely diagnose vehicles in the event of a malfunction.
