Carrier Transicold Debuts High-Efficiency Reefer Trailer Unit

The high-efficiency equipment complies with Tier 4 emissions requirements of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. It includes the new 7500 and 7300 single-temperature belt-driven models, which require less power than Carrier Transicold's prior platform, as well as competitive equipment designed for 2013 Tier 4 compliance. The new units provide 68,000 and 66,000 BTUs of cooling, respectively, at a setpoint of 35 degrees Fahrenheit. According to Carrier Transicold, the X4 Series uses "significantly" less engine power, fuel and refrigerant, while achieving higher refrigeration capabilities and faster pulldown than previous models. The units achieve 35- to 50-percent more BTUs of cooling per gallon of fuel, at AHRI rating conditions, than the company's current designs. For users hauling frozen loads in higher-ambient temperatures, fuel savings of up to 22 percent over earlier models are possible, the company claimed.
