Who's to Blame for the Trucker Shortage?
Help wanted: America needs truck drivers. In 2015, American Trucking Associations estimated that for-hire trucking companies had nearly 50,000 fewer drivers than they needed. The shortage was less severe in 2016, but the trade group expects it to worsen in coming years.
Are Ocean Carriers and Shippers Focused on Service - Or Just Lip Service?

DHL Pilots Carbon-Neutral Bike Deliveries
DHL Express is piloting a cargo bicycle program for inner-city deliveries. The bikes, called 'DHL Cubicycles' are customized, four-wheel bikes that can carry a container with a load of up to 125 kilograms (one cubic meter in volume). The program reduces emissions by minimizing the mileage and time spent on the road by standard delivery vehicles. As e-commerce volumes surge, efforts to minimize the industry's high carbon footprint are increasingly important.
Container Shipping Gets Boost in Demand, Earnings
The latest Container Shipping Forecaster from Maritime Strategies International reports that almost two months into 2017, the liner sector is finding itself in positive territory. Each of the industry's drivers - demand, supply and earnings - have started the year in healthy shape and MSI expects the sector to move into the next quarter with a reinforcement of this encouraging trend.
