Top 40 Cargo Airports Provide Glimpses of Future Growth
Sometimes all it takes is a shift in strategy from a single carrier to make an impact on airport freight traffic. Qatar Airways Cargo, for instance, has been ramping up its airfreight routes for the last couple of years, seeking more high-value cargo, such as pharmaceuticals, and forming joint ventures with other airlines, such as IAG. Qatar achieved such growth via "fleet and network expansion, innovation in our technology, creative interline agreements and by deploying capacity on expanding or untapped markets," said Ulrich Ogiermann, the carrier's chief cargo officer.
Report: New Low in Sea Trade Growth
Seaborne shipments passed 10 billion tons for the first time ever in 2015, up 2.1 percent from 9.8 billion tons the year before - the slowest pace of growth in the industry since 2009, according to the UNCTAD Review of Maritime Transport 2016. The report says future growth looks uncertain.
Cathay Pacific Launches Freighter Service to Portland, Oregon
Cathay Pacific Airways has launched a twice-weekly freighter service to Portland International Airport (PDX) - the Hong Kong-based airline's 18th cargo station in the Americas. The service runs every Thursday and Saturday, Cathay Pacific says, using its newest and biggest freighter, the Boeing 747-8F.

Boeing Sees E-Commerce, Express Services Driving Air Cargo Traffic
Boeing Commercial Airplanes has issued a 20-year outlook for global air-cargo traffic, calling for a consolidated annual growth rate of 4.2 percent in volume (evaluated in metric tonnage), and saying this increase will result in significant demand for new and converted cargo jets needed to meet market demand by 2035.
North American Intermodal Volumes Decline Again, Report Says
Total intermodal traffic recorded another volume decline in the third quarter of 2016, according to the Intermodal Association of North America's latest quarterly Intermodal Market Trends and Statistics report. Contributing to this loss were intermodal trailer volumes which dropped 26.9 percent and international shipments which fell 6.7 percent. The domestic container business experienced gains of 3.3 percent which kept the overall volume loss to 4.6 percent.

Shell Says Demand for Oil Could Peak in 5 Years
Royal Dutch Shell Plc, the world's second-biggest oil company by market value, thinks demand for oil could peak in as little as five years. Demand will peak before supply, says chief financial officer Simon Henry, and that peak will be driven by efficiency and substitution, more than offsetting the new demand for transport.

The members of the new Ocean Alliance, CMA CGM, COSCO Container Lines, Evergreen Line and Orient Overseas Container Line, have announced their proposed "day one" trading network. The Alliance is the largest shipping alliance in the world, and the partners will operate 40 services on the East-West trades with around 100 ports of call and almost 500 port pairs.

The German postal, express and logistics giant is acquiring a strong presence in the British market with the takeover of UK Mail, the second-largest mail provider in the United Kingdom.
