Retail Imports Set Records Despite Ongoing West Coast Port Issues
Import cargo volume at the nation's major retail container ports is expected to slow down this month following record levels seen in September and October as retailers rushed to bring merchandise into the country ahead of a possible shutdown of West Coast ports, according to the monthly Global Port Tracker report released by the National Retail Federation and Hackett Associates.
Sales of Small Applicances to Surpass Those of Larger Items by 2019, Study Says
Small appliances volume sales will surpass major appliances and grow by 22 percent globally by 2019, according to research by Euromonitor International. Global consumer interest is turning towards small appliances, such as air treatment, cooking appliances and vacuum cleaners, which reflects the huge demands for health care and life-enhancing products. More than half of global sales of these products are coming from China, followed by France, Japan and Turkey.

Number of Businesses Reporting Million-dollar Supply Chain Disruptions Rises
Nearly a quarter of respondents to a survey claimed their organisation had suffered losses of at least €1m ($1.25m) during the previous 12 months (up from 15 percent last year) as a result of supply chain disruptions, according to a report from the Business Continuity Institute. Slightly more than 13 percent suffered a one-time disruption that cost in excess of €1m (up from 9 percent last year). The study also showed that 40 percent of respondents claimed their organisation was not insured against any of these losses while 20 percent were only insured against half of these losses.
