Lubricants Market to See Nearly 2 Percent Growth Through 2020, Study Finds
The global lubricants market is estimated to reach a demand totaling 44,165 kilo tons by 2020, up from 39,140 kilo tons in 2013, according to a report from Transparency Market Research. The increase is based on growth rates of 1.72 percent between 2014 and 2020.
Africa: The Last Emerging - and Vital - Market
Analyst Insight: With stories of Ebola and Boko Haram dominating the news, it would be easy to dismiss Africa from a supply chain perspective. Risk is clearly high and traditional reasons to engage supply chain - either for low-cost sourcing or new market entry - may seem absent. The truth, however, is that many supply chain leaders should start thinking now about how to engage this vital emerging market. - Kevin O’Marah, Chief Content Officer, SCM World
Automakers Are Bound to Design, Build and Sell Anywhere
Analyst Insight: Car ownership in developing economies is on the rise. By 2020, annual world vehicle production could reach 85 to 90 million units. That will mean another 75 to 100 plants, each producing around 300,000 cars a year, will be needed, essentially in or close to the world's fastest-developing countries. Automakers have to create new global production strategies to serve these multiple diverse markets. – Pierfrancesco Manenti, Vice President, Research, SCM World
Manufacturing in Africa Is on the Upswing
The evidence of strengthening in African manufacturing is increasingly persuasive. Between 2000 and 2010, the share of the African population living on less than $1.25 per day fell from 58 percent to 48 percent. In no small part, the falling rate of extreme poverty is driven by much-improved output performance.
Report Sees Dramatic Increase of Ship Pollutants Fouling 'High Arctic' Over Next Ten Years
At current fuel sulfur levels, pollutant emissions from ships in part of the Arctic region could increase 150 to 600 percent by 2025, according to a report from the International Council of Clean Transportation.
Ship Owners Get Guide on Heavy-lift, Project Cargo Safety
The UK P&I Club has joined forces with leading marine cargo insurer Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty to publish practical guidance for ship owners and operators on how to carry heavy-lift and project cargo safely at sea.
Ever Cheaper Robots to Continue to Reduce Labor Costs
Cheaper, better robots will replace human workers in the world's factories at a faster pace over the next decade, pushing labor costs down 16 percent, according to the Boston Consulting Group.
China Plans to Build Hong Kong 2.0

New Plant in West Virginia Part of P&G's Supply Chain Transformation Project
The Procter & Gamble Company plans to build a multi-category manufacturing facility in Berkeley County, West Virginia, in the Eastern Panhandle of the state near the town of Tabler Station. When the plant opens in 2017, it will be one of the most advanced and sustainable plants among P&G's global manufacturing and supply-chain operations.
True Innovation Lost by Applying Conventional Values to 3D Technology
A mentor often repeated this: "If you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always gotten." Product designers who are working with 3D printing design, development and manufacturing should take heed. Design the way you've always designed, and you won't get anything out of 3D printing that's different from what you've always gotten before 3D printing.
3D Printing Has Accomplished So Much Already - Where Can It Go From Here?
Before we ask where 3D printing is taking us, let's look at what has been already achieved or is near achievement across markets beyond printing prototypes, toys and models.
A New Era in Global Supply Chain: Bridging Gaps with Advanced Technology
A long, long time ago, in a land not so far, far away, a world existed where logistics was linear: Pangaea. On this supercontinent, moving products from China to the United States, door to door, was simple. The goods would move over the road, heading southwest from lands where people spoke Chinese and stopped when people spoke American.
