UK Freight Forwarding Sector Annoyed by Trade Negotiations
As talks are announced regarding a potential free-trade agreement between the two continental powers, which could simplify and revolutionize the €450 per annum trans-Atlantic trade there are rumblings in UK freight forwarding circles that another agreement, potentially a precursor to the main agreement and involving the security concerns when shipping goods between the partners, does not appear to hold all that it originally seemed to promise.
Intentional GPS Jamming by Truck Drivers
Moonlighting van drivers are probably to blame for the growing problem of GPS jamming on Britain's roads, the latest survey of the problem by the Technology Strategy Board's Sentinel Project has suggested. In advance of the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) Vulnerabilities 2013 event, the organization revealed its network of sensors had recently detected up to 100 potentially dangerous jamming incidents a day near one busy UK airport alone.

European Road Freight Market Had 'Limp' Holiday Period
The road freight market in Europe has been particularly subdued over the past few months, according to the Freightex European Road Freight Rate Index, compiled by Transport Intelligence. However, the market experienced short bursts of volatility, a strange situation which is largely attributed of the recession across much of the continent.
North American Freight Index Reports Unusual Strength in January Spot Market Volume
Reaching the highest-ever volume for the month of January, the DAT North American Freight Index increased 42 percent compared to January 2012. Freight volume was unusually robust for the season, exceeding December levels by 24 percent, and marks the first time since the Freight Index began when freight availability increased from December. Over the past 10 years, there has been a 13-percent average decline in freight levels between those two months.
Cars Cause Auto-Truck Collisions More Than 80 Percent of the Time, Report Says
A report released by the American Trucking Associations concludes that many more times than not, car drivers are at fault when cars and trucks crash with one another. ATA's report rounded up reports from several large studies for its findings, including from agencies like the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and groups like the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety and the University of Michigan's Transportation Research Institute.
