A new agreement aims to scale lithium-ion battery cell production in the United States.

The demand for innovative battery technology seems inexhaustible, but at the moment, U.S. manufacturers are falling short of meeting it domestically. A new partnership aims to change that. Anthro Energy, a developer of advanced polymer electrolytes to enhance lithium-ion battery performance, has signed a memorandum of understanding with EnPower, Inc., a U.S. designer and manufacturer of battery cells. The deal calls for establishment of a long-term, multi-phased arrangement to jointly develop, manufacture and scale high-performance lithium-ion cells in the U.S. According to the principals, it will lead to the nation’s first domestically owned and operated electrolyte production facility. On this episode, we learn the details from David Mackanic, chief executive officer and co-founder of Anthro Energy. He explains the importance of keeping pace with state-of-the-art battery technology in support of drones, robotics and artificial intelligence, as well as the need for a vertically integrated domestic supply chain. Hosted by Bob Bowman, Editor-in-Chief of SupplyChainBrain.
