Can AI fix the frustrating lead-time guessing game?

Order and production lead time has, for most companies, been an essentially static number — a calculation based on supplier commitments and the subsequent best guess of human planners. In today’s risk environment, that’s no longer tenable. Companies need a better and more flexible way to figure lead time, in order to meet increasing customer demands for reliable fulfillment and delivery. The answer lies in artificial intelligence. On this episode, we speak with Bill Benton, co-founder of GAINS, about the role that AI is playing in sharpening the planning function. We’ll learn how it actually goes about figuring lead times, drawing on a raft of data and signals that humans either can’t see, or are unable to process at scale. We’ll also look at the ripple effects of inaccurate planning, affecting safety stock, inventory positioning and service levels. Hosted by Bob Bowman, Editor-in-Chief of SupplyChainBrain.
