Asian Carriers Report Strong October for Cargo
Cathay Pacific and subsidiary carrier Dragonair carried a total of 172,385 tonnes of cargo and mail in October, an increase of 5.3 percent over October 2015. The carrier's load factor rose by 1.6 percentage points to 68.1 percent.
Global Parcel Shipping to Grow 20 Percent by 2018, Study Says
Parcel shipping volume will grow annually at 5 to 7 percent between now and 2018, for a total increase of 20 percent, with the biggest gains coming in cross-border shipping, according to a study from Pitney Bowes.
Transplace Acquires Canadian 3PL Lakeside Logistics
Transplace, a provider of transportation management services and logistics technology, has announced its acquisition of Lakeside Logistics, a Canadian-based logistics services company. This acquisition expands Transplace's presence throughout North America and supports its strategic growth in order to meet the supply chain needs of its growing customer base, the company says. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Port of Philadelphia to Double Container Capacity
Governor Tom Wolf has announced a comprehensive capital investment program at the Port of Philadelphia that will result in more than $300m in investment in the Port's infrastructure, warehousing and equipment. The initiative will start next year and continue through 2020.
E-Retailers Say They Continue to Struggle With Cross-Border Demand
E-commerce has been the dominant force for change in the air cargo logistics business for the last several years, but online retailers, forwarders, carriers and integrators say they are still struggling with ways to keep up with the intense demand from international customers to deliver them the world instantly. Airbus Hopes to Deliver Up to 80 A350 Aircraft in 2017
Airbus tentatively aims to deliver as many as 80 A350 jetliners in 2017, two sources familiar with the plans have said. The target marks a new stage in ambitious plans to raise output of the company's newest long-haul jet to 10 a month in 2018, but depends mainly on how successful suppliers will be in curbing delays in cabin equipment.

UPS Catches Up With FedEx on Dimensional Weight Change
Two months after a similar move by FedEx, UPS has announced changes to its dimensional weight pricing schedule. FedEx plans to decrease its DIM divisor from 166 to 139 as of Jan. 2, effectively increasing the shipping costs on millions of e-commerce parcels. UPS is also lowering its divisor to 139 as of Jan. 8, but is exempting domestic air and ground parcels that are less than one cubic foot (1,728 cubic inches).
Hanjin Shipping Sells Part of Container Ship Business for $31M
South Korea's Hanjin Shipping Co Ltd said last week it decided to sell part of its container ship business to Korea Line Corp for 37bn Korean won ($31m).
