The Port of Los Angeles has renewed its lease with Yusen Terminals for another 30 years, keeping the operator at the port through at least 2056.

According to an August 27 release, Yusen will invest $200 million in zero-emission cargo-handling equipment as part of the deal. The terminal has also been transitioning to zero-emission equipment for years, and already uses electric top handlers, forklifts and yard tractors, as well as hydrogen fuel cell equipment.

“Their commitment to excellence and willingness to work closely with us have been invaluable, especially in advancing our clean air initiatives," said Port of Los Angeles executive director Gene Seroka. "When we called on terminals to test and incorporate zero-emission equipment, Yusen Terminals immediately stepped up."

Yusen is owned by Ocean Network Express, and has operated its 232-acre terminal along the port's East Basin Channel since 1991. The company will celebrate its 35th anniversary at the Port of Los Angeles later this year.
